This hat is designed to be super warm. It’s done in the waistcoat stitch which makes a nice dense fabric. Not familiar with the waistcoat stitch? Not to worry, Cheryl will teach it to you. Her pattern is 10 pages long with lots of photos and clear written instructions.
The pattern also includes instructions for teen, adult small, adult medium, adult large and adult extra large sized hats.
The No Nonsense Guy Hat design has a partial band. It works great to keep the wearer’s ears warm when worn at the back. Putting the band in the front transforms the look of the hat – it becomes a slouchy hat.
You’ll need a soft, medium weight #4 yarn. Cheryl worked her sample hats using Caron Simply Soft in Charcoal Heather and Red Heart Super Saver in Camouflage. You’ll also need three crochet hooks – 5.0mm, 5.5mm and 6.5mm to complete this hat.
Cheryl’s also shared a tutorial on how to add a warm lining to this or any hat. It’s freely available on her website.
